A bold claim
I was watching a TED talk on YouTube yesterday entitled, “How to talk to the worst parts of yourself” by people researcher, facilitator, and empathy trainer Karen Faith.
I had to stop the video and rewind it several times when I heard her say the following:
“Love is what happens when we stop trying to figure out who deserves it”.
This has been ringing a big bell for me ever since. And I wonder, what if we just allowed people to be where they are and welcomed them, even for a moment, into our sphere?
What if we allowed the parts of ourselves that we usually reject or ignore into this same sphere of welcome?
What would happen? Would love and compassion rush in?
I’m curious to find out.
